The graph below shows AGM battery life with daily cycles of 30% depth of discharge (blue line). An LiFePO4 battery bank that is half the capacity is shown also with its life expectancy based on 60% depth of discharge cycles. Both these battery banks will cost around the same amount (since the LiFePO4 battery bank is half the size). Both banks are providing the same amount of daily energy. However the LiFePO4 batty bank has a vastly superior life expectancy.
This graph shows the life expectancy of deep cycle GSM vs LiFePO4 batteries. The LiFePO4 battery is half the capacity and so both batteries will cost around the same amount. However the LiFePO4 bank will last over 6 times longer.
There are some situations where AGM batteries will provide a more cost effective solution. The primary benefit of LiFePO4 batteries, aside from their safety, is their very long life due to the number of cycles they can perform with high depths of discharge. If these batteries are used every day then they are still expected to last 20 years. However if your system is only used on weekends then the cell life expectancy goes out to 60+ years but it's likely something else will stop working by then. AGM batteries with a cycle life of 1000 cycles would last around 12 to 20 years which would provide the best value for money as long as you already have a safe place to install them.
